At our home, unfortunately, we cannot have either a real tree or a plastic tree because we have a Christmas tree hooligan in the family – our nice red but not too agile cat, Tom. A cat who thinks Christmas baubles are toys… So today we have 5 options of pattern for you  ther first is paid, and the other 4 is free! Enjoy!

So this year I decided to crochet us a Christmas tree. I googled around online for a pattern but couldn’t find anything that looked like the tree I had in mind. However, I have seen similar firs in pictures on e.g. Pinterest, but none of the carpenters wanted to share their patterns… This weekend I instead started experimenting and when I was satisfied, I wrote down how I did it. So if I manage to inspire you with my pictures to crochet your own tree – I’ll be happy to share my pattern with you!

Maybe you just want to make a tiny Christmas tree and feel ready now!? If not, I think by now you have a rock-solid grasp of how to crochet your branch layers and can proceed to make your tree just as tall as you desire. For a symmetrical fir, you increase each branch layer by 2 arcs, i.e. 6 stitches. I got tired of my tree being completely symmetrical so I made the bows bigger and bigger the further down the tree I went. On the last layer of branches, you crochet the tips in the front stitch loop if you want your tree to have a trunk. Which it should have if you are going to be able to fill it.

    Stem:
    Change to brown yarn.
Crochet 1 round with sc in the back stitch loop (behind the ends of the last branch layer).
Then crochet the bottom by decreasing stitches as you go. If you think it’s difficult, crochet a roundel of the right size instead, which you then sew or crochet to the stem.

    Fill with batting.

I dressed my tree with star studs and white mother of pearl beads. The star is crocheted freehand with silver lurex yarn.
